Event Report

The Montgomery County GreenFest took on a different look and feel this year as the event was split in two, at two different locations on two different days. The DEED EV Showcase was made part of day 2 titled “GreenFest in the City”. Our display space restricted DEED event was made up primarily of 8 passenger vehicles: two EV trucks (Electric utility branded F150 Lightning & Rivian R1T), the top two EVs in terms of EVs registered in the county (Tesla Model 3 and Model Y), two of the most affordable EVs currently available (Bolt and Gen 2 LEAF), and two additional EVs (a Maryland Tesla Owners Club/Space X outfitted Tesla Model X and a County branded Bolt). The other Bolt was owned by an EV charger installation specialist with over a decade of experience installing residential and commercial EVSE across a multi-state region who also displayed a mockup L2 home charger. Also, included was a County EV Transit Bus AND notably our very own local Wheaton High School’s Society of Women Engineers Team showing their international winning entry in the March 2023 Future Mobility Challenge, EV Grand Prix for High School Students category.

Our EV show partners included the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, PEPCO Electric Utility, Tesla (providing Ride & Drives), the Maryland Tesla Owners Club, Ryan Electrical Services, Montgomery County General Services, Fleet Division, Montgomery County Department of Transportation, Wheaton High School’s Society of Women Engineers Team and dedicated members of the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington DC and Maryland Tesla Owners Club. The GreenFest in the City event hosted over 60 vendors focused on greening residents’ lifestyles through various ideas and offerings.

Joyce Breiner, Executive Director of Poolesville Green, Inc. and the DEED City Captain, conducted brief EV101 and EV Charging talks during the afternoon.

News features of the event included a radio and online report by station WTOP with the title "An EV future on full display at Montgomery Co.’s GreenFest in the City” featuring JD Taylor, President of the Maryland Tesla Owners Club and Board member of Poolesville Green, Inc. See & hear at https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2023/04/montgomery-county-hosts-greenfest-in-the-city-to-cap-off-earth-week/     Also, local channel Fox5 news reported on the event (video in photo gallery).
