Event Report

Nebraska Sierra Club and Nebraska's Electric Vehicle Association teamed up to present the latest information on electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging stations.  We highlighted the clean-air benefits and cost-saving benefits of using an electric vehicle. Volunteers displayed a wide variety of electric vehicles including 12 autos, a Ford Transit utility van, electric bicycles, and a brand new Omaha Metro Transit electric bus. Probably the biggest hit was a beautiful 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E displayed by a dealer.  Owners were on hand to answer questions about their EV experiences.

A booth nearby provided helpful literature about electric vehicles. Being a very windy day, it was difficult to distribute literature. So one of our volunteers parked his EV near the booth, plugged an extension cord into the inverter on his car, and powered a computer at the booth all day! And we used the wifi on the Omaha Metro bus to access the internet and look up answers to questions.

Our vehicle display was in the parking lot southwest of the main Earth Day celebration. Because of congestion at the site, test drives were not available. Click here for more information about Earth Day Omaha. Click here to view our photo album of the event. Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) also had a booth with information about its incentive programs for buying EVs and installing chargers in their homes. OPPD Board Member Eric Williams visited our display.

4/23/2022 - Earth Day Omaha Electric Vehicle Information Booth. The EV Display is in the parking lot behind the booth. It was a very windy day in Omaha, and concrete blocks were used to hold the booth canopy in place. Maning the booth (from the left) is Brenda Moskovits and Julie Lester.
