Event Report

Thank you to everyone who made our Kick Gas Drive Electric Earth Day such a success. We had over 34 cars, all showing off the joy of driving emission-free. Transportation is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases causing our climate to change. Driving electric can help mitigate the climate crisis by making the vehicles on our roads as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our event was held in the first block one of the busiest streets in historic Annapolis. Vehicular traffic was closed during our event. The participating vehicles represented 19 different models including a Zero motorcycle, two Rivian pickup trucks, BMW iX and i4, Fisker Karma, Mini SE, GEM electric cart, and other more widely seen vehicles such as Chevrolet Bolt, Ford Mach-E, Jaguar i-Pace, Porsche Taycan, VW e-Golf and ID.4, and Tesla 3, S, and Y.

In addition to photographs provided by participants, we also have spectacular drone shots by JB Voigt Aerial Photography that are included in a remarkable video by Patrick Loughrey.

Our goal was to make the event festive with plein air painters, music, and the added attraction of al fresco dining in the midst of our show. We billed this Friday evening as Date Night – an Earth Day evening with EVs!

Additionally, we provided space for environmental organizations and our local symphony to provide information by staffing tables.

Thank you to our partners, the Inner West Street Association and the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater DC (EVADC), the local drivers' group, and to our local sponsors, Fitzgerald Volkswagen of AnnapolisBMW of Annapolis, and Annapolis Performance Coatings.

Local supporters included The Kristi Neidhardt TeamJB Voigt Aerial PhotographyHD Squared Architects, LLC, and the Graduate Annapolis Hotel.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the enthusiastic EV drivers who brought their vehicles and gave their time and knowledge spreading their EV smiles and even providing rides to the public. Thank you!

Thank you to Tesla for the 24-hour Tesla Drive Experience we raffled and to additional supporters and exhibitors, Annapolis CompostNeighborhood Sun, and Londontowne Symphony Orchestra

West Street's merchants and restaurants celebrated with us too! Annapolis Arts Alliance had their plein air painters on the street creating art centered on the EVs and Gallery 57 West had an Earth Day salute and sunflower fundraiser for Ukraine benefitting the World Central Kitchen.

The half-dozen nearby restaurants offered both Earth Day Dinner Specials and “Electrified” drinks such as the Good Earth, Electric Lemonade, and the Solar Cell.

The eco-friendly GEM electric carts of Annapolis Eventours provided rides too.

And thank you to the national sponsors, Electrify America, Plug In America, Sierra Club, Electric Vehicle Association, Wells Fargo and EVHYBRIDNOIRE.

Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley toured our show and was thrilled to use the opportunity to tour his electric mobility plan for our historic city.

As evening fell a group of people danced the "Electric Slide, momentarily renamed the "Electric Ride" to the delight of the crowd. Then a Tesla owner turned on the "Easter Egg" that had his car dancing to the music -- and, incredibly, several of the Teslas parked nearby started up too -- all in sync! It was the hit of the evening.

A Model 3 owner said, “Thanks for organizing this event. It was among the best electric car events I’ve ever attended, and that’s quite a few. Appreciate all that you did to make this event successful.” Everyone agreed that the public’s enthusiasm was palpable, and that the venue was set up to make seeing and learning about the vehicles easy.

We are looking forward to producing an even better event on October 1 for National Drive Electric Week!
