Event Report

The event was co-sponsored by the Thurston Climate Action Team and the Olympia High School Climate Action Club.  It was held in a parking lot of our local high school, a central location with plenty of parking, available toilets, and and electronic sign which advertised the event for the week before to passing traffic.

Our promotion included coverage in advance by the local daily newspaper (Olympian), the local daily E-News (JoltNews), and one local radio station.  In addition, our co-sponsor organizations reached 1,500 people with direct email, plus additional listserves.  One of our vehicles, the Mach-E, was recruited via our post on NextDoor.

Our "First Row" had nineteen different current-model EVs, including Tesla S, 3, X, and Y, Kia Niro EV, PHEV, and EV6, Hyundai Kona, Ioniq5, and Ioniq PHEV, Ford Mach-E, Rivian R1T, Chevy Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica, Nissan Leaf, Toyota Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime, Volkswagen ID4, and Audi Etron.

The most unusual vehicles were the Rivian R1T, a Corbin Sparrow, a 1993 Dodge TEVan, Arcimoto SRK, and a 40' Bluebird Electric School Bus, brought by our local school district.

Event Description

The Olympia High School Climate Action Club and the Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT) invite you to our electric car show as a part of Drive Electric Earth Day, April 30, at Olympia High School.

TCAT includes an Electric Vehicle Action Group, which sponsors electric vehicle events throughout the year to highlight the benefits of electric vehicles.  We are all-volunteer, and not affiliated with any auto dealer or other group.  We welcome every kind of plug-in electric vehicle that meets the DEED criteria to participate, and welcome people just thinking about an EV to come and talk with us about our cars.

Our goal is to have as many different EVs as we can available for people to see, touch, and ask owners questions about.

This event, as part of Drive Electric Earth Day, will include an electric school bus from the Olympia School District, in addition to many different electric automobiles.

We will locate in the South parking lot of Olympia High School on North Street in Olympia.  The school will be closed, but there are portable restrooms in the nearby stadium parking lot, a 4 minute walk away.

The best Google Maps address for this parking lot is 1200 North Street SE, Olympia, WA; the actual address of the school is 1302 North Street SE, but Google Maps has trouble with that address.
