Event Report

This year, VCREA was invited to participate in the annual Thousand Oaks Arbor Earth Day celebration at the Thousand Oaks Community Center. VCREA’s participation was 4-part: an interactive booth, static EV display, an EV painting station, and EV workshop/presentation. The booth was stocked with EV information and brochures, a laptop featuring virtual EV ride and drives, as well as a prize wheel to attract kids and their parents. More than 200 individuals participated in our booth’s EV-related game and several more stopped by just to have their EV questions answered. Some of the most common questions revolved around rebates and vehicle range.

VCREA partnered with EV Advocates of Ventura County to bring in 12 different EV models, and a total of 17 EVs. The favorite EV among the kids, and one of the favorite features of the Earth Day event, was the colorful County Chevrolet Bolt. Kids, adults, and even County Supervisor, Linda Parks had the opportunity to decorate the car with washable paints in red, blue, and yellow.

Lastly, VCREA was given a 30-minute slot during the event to present and answer questions about EVs in front of a large audience. EV Coaches Nancy Clarin and Kent Bullard spoke about the different types of EVs, charging, reasons to drive electric, and the future of EVs in Ventura County. Audience questions were mainly about how to choose an EV.

VCREA’s participation in this event was made possible by the help of EV Advocates of Ventura County, as well as several high school volunteers that helped with set-up, supervising the painting activity, and clean-up. We are also grateful for the City of Thousand Oaks for hosting the event.

There will also be around 20 booths with a mix of non-profits and City staff on multiple sustainability and gardening topics.
