Event Report

The Drive Electric event in Somerset Municipal Complex went well. The whole event was organized by Environmental Commission and Green Team. We have had great variety of plugin vehicles, mostly from volunteers but also 2 dealers. As expected, the highest count was for Teslas, specifically Model 3. All production models were represented. We had also Chevy Bolts, Volts, one Spark EV, new and old Nissan Leaf, 2 Zero S motorcycles, Plugin Prius, Prius Prime, BMW i3 rex, Honda Clarity PHEV. Jaguar i-Pace (dealer), Chrysler Pacifica e-Hybrid (dealer) and e-bike. In addition, the township showcased 3 of their 5 new Chevy Bolts, fleet used for construction code office. To complement the EV display, we have also arranged for EV charger installers to show up, specifically Greenspot and EV Charger Installers of America. Their tables had many visitors. The EV guru Tom Moloughney brought eMotorWerk EVSE for display. In addition, Footprints 2 Wing had educational display on Race to Zero Carbon. The event was organized to occur right before council meeting to ensure participation by council members.
The township special projects manager Saffie Kallon helped with event promotion in local media, on township website and secured parking field and direction signs. She also arranged for Youth Council kids to help with table setup and games. Commissioners provided refreshments.

Despite the good weather and significant advertisement efforts, the number of visitors was below our expectations. The lesson learnt was that it is better to have EV shows as part of larger event to attract residents broadly. We will consider adding EV show for Farmers Market later in June and during annual Franklin Day Festival in September (perhaps as NDEW). Among the visitors was a delegation from Togo.

Luckily, the event was well covered by Franklin Reporter & Advocate via Facebook Live. The 40 minute video was very nice and the link is available.

Event Description

DUE TO OVERWHELMING REGISTRATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES, WE ARE CLOSING REGISTRATION FOR ANY MODELS ALREADY LISTED. PLEASE REGISTER ONLY IF YOU HAVE MODEL NOT ON THE LIST. THANK YOU.

Welcome to the first ever Electric Vehicle event at Franklin Municipal complex. The town wants to celebrate the acquisition of the first fleet of plug-in electric vehicles, Chevy Bolt EVs. The town achieved a Sustainable Jersey Silver Certification in 2016. Making the town EV friendly is part of current re-certification efforts.

The public will be invited to come and see a wide variety of plug-in cars brought by EV enthusiasts and car dealers (only for brands not covered by volunteers). The volunteers will share their EV experience as well as suggest visitors to follow their lead and buy plug-in as their next vehicle.

The EVSE providers & installers will participate as well.

Light refreshment will be available.
