Drive Electric Earth Month

Event Organizer Code of Conduct

Event organizers for National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) and Drive Electric Earth Month(DEEM) have an exciting opportunity to share the benefits of electric vehicles to the public, policymakers, and the media. City captains have the responsibility to meet professional standards of conduct, and to hold other volunteers accountable to them as well, in all NDEW and DEED interactions with others, including in person, in writing, on email, or on the phone.

The City Captains Google Group is open to NDEW and DEEM event organizers. The purpose of the group is for the national organizers (Plug In America, Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club, EVHybridNoire, and Drive Electric USA) to communicate updates about events, webinars, materials, etc. and for city captains to share with one another questions, lessons learned, and tips for creating great events.

City Captains will conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner in their leadership role, including while communicating to the Google Group, in direct communication to individual group members, and with fellow volunteers and participants leading up to and at the events.

  1. Discrimination or harassment by or toward any member through the list or by direct communication will not be tolerated.
  2. Let individuals and groups speak for themselves to ensure that the voices of the people at the center of the discussion, or who are directly impacted by the issue being discussed, are heard.
  3. Members will make every effort to ensure the information provided to other members and the public is true, reliable and accurate and will not willfully misrepresent any material fact when disseminating that information.
  4. The members of the Google Group may inform members of news, developments and availability of products and services related to electric vehicles, but will not aim to sell or profit from any product or service shared to the group.
  5. The members of the Google Group will be mindful of when a response to the full group is not necessary or when a private message to national organizers or to an individual member would be more appropriate. This keeps discussion threads relevant and succinct, while allowing organizers to address individual member concerns or questions effectively.

Serious Misconduct

The following actions constitute serious misconduct and can be terms for the NDEW/DEED national organizations removing that person from the Google Group and / or from City Captain status:

  1. Physical or sexual assault or threats toward others.
  2. Harassment, threats, intimidation, or any aggressive action directed at another City Captain, volunteer, event participant, or national organizer.
  3. Embezzlement or misuse of event funds, participant lists or other assets for activities not authorized by the national organizers.
  4. Use of slurs or derogatory language of any kind, including regarding sex, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, or disability.
  5. Fraud, libel, defamation or illegal activity of any kind in the conduct of NDEW or DEED related business.
  6. Illegal or unethical professional or personal conduct outside of NDEW or DEED if that misconduct could significantly damage the reputation of NDEW or DEED, the national organizers, the event organizers, or sponsors.

Enforcement

It is important for organizations to ensure accountability within our structures. Therefore, all situations that may be in violation of the Code of Conduct will be reviewed by the national organizing members of Plug In America, Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club, EVHybridNoire, and Drive Electric USA on a case-by-case basis. We encourage people to share information and details with [support at driveelectricearthmonth dot org] if they feel that this code of conduct was violated, without fear of retaliation or retribution. Repeated or egregious incidents that violate this Code of Conduct can and may result in removal from the Google Group and/or revocation of City Captain status.
