Event Report

Our Electric Vehicle Association display was part of a much larger Earth Day Event held by the City of Cupertino.

This family oriented event typically draws about 5,000 visitors.  At our booth and information table we had toy car give-aways for the kids and for the adults we handed out lots of the Plugin America literature.  The most popular handout was the one that shows which EVs and PHEVs are currently available with photos of each along with pricing and range information.

We also answered a lot of questions the guests had about charging stations and electric vehicle availability.  Unfortunately, there is a shortage of EVs and PHEVs at this time with long waiting lists and dealers charging high premiums over the MSRP.  Hopefully that will change by next year.

We have participated in this event for many years, however it was cancelled for 2020 and 2021, so we were glad to be back this year.  We had masks and hand sanitizer available for ourselves and the attendees.  Food trucks were on hand so the visitors stayed for a long time visiting the various exhibitors.  For insurance reasons, there were no test drives.  All of the display vehicles were privately owned and their owners had good engagement with the guests.  We felt good about the turnout and engagement and consider the event to be a big success.

The display cars included a Lucid Air, VW ID.4 and Ford Mach-E.  We also had my 2002 RAV 4 EV on display along with a couple of VW conversions - a yellow VW "Thing" and a VW Golf that was converted before VW came out with the e-Golf.
Both of the conversions had Lithium batteries.

Event Description

Cupertino’s Annual Earth Day & Arbor Day Festival is a family-friendly interactive event that invites community members of all ages to learn about environmental issues and solutions. Consistently attracting over 5,000 attendees and about 100 partner organizations, the Festival features hands-on activities, live entertainment, and delicious food served by local food trucks.

The Silicon Valley Chapter of the Electric Vehicle Association will have an info table there to promote electric vehicles and answer any questions you have.  We have already designated which EVs will be on display and do not have space for any additional display EVs at this time.

Attendees who register via this website are invited to stop by our display table and say hello. You are also welcome to share your positive EV experiences with any of the visitors who stop by our table.

Please comply with any Covid-19 restrictions in force at the time of this event. There is no parking available at the event itself due to the high level of pedestrian traffic. Event volunteers may be able to direct visitors to nearby parking lots. There are some EV charging stations in the vicinity.

The event may be cancelled by the City of Cupertino due to Covid-19 issues. Anyone who signs up via this page will be notified in advance if the event is cancelled.
